The Artist
Artist Matthew Owens lives in Chicago with his wife Carla, five Sphynx cats, an American Bull Dog named Otto and an English Bull Terrier named Toot. Matthew obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1984. He is active in the local art community and was the chair of the Time Arts Committee at Randolph Street Gallery for many years. Recently, he performed Igor Stravinsky's L'histoire Du Soldat, The Soldier's Tale (1918) with a chamber group from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Matthew has performed with his own creations all over the country:
Chicago: Master of Ceremony at the inaugural performance of the theater space of the Museum of Contemporary Art. Shows and performances at Randolph Street Gallery, N.A.M.E. gallery, Cabaret Metro, Millie's Orchid Show, and the internationally renowned Club Lower Links (including Traumarama, the Cide Show, Leather, Windy, and the Monster Show).
Minneapolis: All Dead Revue at the Walker Art Center
Miami & Tampa: All Dead Revue Tampa Performance Art Center, Dade County Community College
New York City: P.S. 122 and La Mama, painting live on stage with the Desoff Choir at Lincoln Center for their 75th Anniversary.
